President's Silver Jubilee (13.07.2010)
How often do you hear about a Silver Jubilee for positions in volunteer organizations? Indeed not very often, but it happens! How often do you hear about a Silver Jubilee in an international volunteer organization? Hardly ever, maybe never!
But ETBF celebrates a true Silver Jubilee to day, Saturday 3 July 2010, since the President in ETBF, Addie Ophelders, was elected for his first term in the Presidium, in those days as Vice President, for precisely 25 years ago.
Addie Ophelders was elected at the Congress on 3 July 1985 in Vienna - Austria, held in conjunction with the 7th European Championships.
Already in 1989, at the Congress held in conjunction with the 8th European Championships in sґHertogenbosch - The Netherlands, Addie Ophelders moved one step up and became the President of ETBF (European Zone at that time), a position he has kept ever since.
As a consequence of the Vice President election in 1985, Addie Ophelders became immediately a member of the Presidium of the World Tenpin Bowling Association (FIQ Tenpin Division at that time), a position he obviously also have kept since then. In the period 1987-1993, Addie Ophelders served additionally as the 1st Vice President of WTBA.
Finally Addie Ophelders became a member of the Presidium of Fйdйration Internationale des Quilleurs in 1989, a position he left at the end of 2007, but only because he at the same time was appointed Secretary General of FIQ, a position he still keeps.
Just looking at the many international positions and the many years of serving, it is clear for all that Addie Ophelders' international career have been and still is fantastic.
But this is about more than positions and years; it is about a passion for the sport, about a strong dedication to all tasks given and about a deep knowledge, gained after years of studies, involvement and hard work. There is no doubt that the World shares a tremendous respect for the work done bye the ETBF President.
Addie Ophelders' influence at the global bowling scene is evident and the international network of Addie Ophelders is legendary. Under the leadership of Addie Ophelders, ETBF has grown from a rather anonym organization, to a dynamic organization, completely integrated in European bowling and with a row of offers to federations and players, like three yearly championships, a very visible European Bowling Tour, coaching clinics, technical clinics and technical inspections.
Despite 25 years on board, Addie Ophelders' duties and tasks are continuously taken care of by the well known passion and dedication, and still with a lot to do and a lot to look forward to.

Nowadays there are at least 551 bowling centers in Russia (we say ‘at least’ meaning that we might be unaware of some more centers). The number of the lanes is already over 4200...

 What is your new position in KEGEL?
Since 2004, my main role has been supporting the Kegel distribution network throughout Europe. In February this year we have shifted that responsibility to Kegel Master Technician Don Agent. In this time I have also been the liaison for Kegel with the European Ten Pin Federation (ETBF), their highly successful European Bowling Tour (EBT) and with the EBT organizers who accept the Kegel lane maintenance sponsorship. I continue to be the liaison for Kegel for this in addition to performing work and writings for www.kegel.net.

Some people think that the idea of installing entertainments inside the trading centers was imposed to the developers by the entertainment industry. It’s not a secret – the entertainment centers (including bowling centers) pay less rent than the retailers. The analysis of consumer behavior allows to consider that only 9% of the mall’s clients enter the mall solely for shopping. 69% of them come there in order “to buy something and to have some fun”. That’s why the trading centers are willing to integrate the entertainment areas inside them.

The 67 bowling centers have been opened in Russia in 2006. In compare to 2005 (72 bowling centers) it’s a little bit less. But the total number of bowling lanes which started to operate in 2006 is 604, which is more than in 2005 (577 lanes). It reflects the growing tendency to enlargement of the bowling centers – to build the centers with the big number of lanes.
